The Remarkable Book of Job

Discipleship University at First Baptist Dallas

March 19: The Patience of Job (& Lessons of Eternity)

Job is treated as an example of righteousness in Ezekiel 14:14 and as a Prophet by James whose “example of suffering affliction” us to help us understand something of the “pity” and “mercy” of the Lord (James 5:10-11). Two of the greatest statements of faith were uttered by Job: “Though He slay me, I will hope in Him. Nevertheless I will argue my ways before Him” (Job 13:15); and “I know that my Redeemer lives, And at the last He will take His stand on the earth” (Job 19:25). Much can be learned from this great man.
Just what can we gain from the information in this remarkable book? Much of what is said by the “Friends” is not true, but gives us valuable insight into human reasoning and the deception of the great Enemy. Job’s “greatest” wealth also gives him the sense of the “greatest” loss. Eternal principles are set in history for us to see and remember through his life. God’s own instruction is repeated nowhere else in Scripture. What is it that we must “store” in our hearts from His matchless teaching?

Discipleship University at First Baptist Dallas: The Remarkable Book of Job

Far from being an engaging fable, the account of Job in the Bible is one of the most historically and scientifically accurate records of the ancient world. Abraham was settling into Canaan, Job was being tested by none other than God and Lucifer themselves, and the disrupting of the Tower of Babel was barely last year’s news. The Ice Age was beginning to tighten its grip on both hemispheres of the planet and dinosaurs (yes, dinosaurs) roamed the earth. Ur of the Chaldees was a burgeoning city of 250,000, and the “Land of Uz” where Job lived was the major trade center between Egypt and Syria.

The Institute for Creation Research will add fascinating insights with new million-dollar DVDs on dinosaurs and wonderful insights into the Creator’s direct dialogue with Job about the universe that He created. Join Dr. Henry Morris in Truett Chapel at First Baptist Dallas for this fascinating study. Topics include:

  • The Remarkable Book
  • The Primeval History
  • The Scientific Insights
  • The Great Experiment
  • The Miserable Comforters
